Now that the heatwave looks like it’s over, and you’ve only just arrived in the West Country for your summer holiday you will need to find some indoor attractions to keep the kids happy. Buckland Abbey in the heart of the Devon countryside, a 700 year old historic house owned by the National Trust may just fit the bill.
The Trust puts on family activities suitable for all age groups, plus inside the house there is an interesting exhibition about Sir Francis Drake and life in Elizabethan times, with costumes to try on for the kiddies. Activities include Bushcraft For Kids, Pirate Ship making, crafts, nature spotting etc. In the Great Barn you can see The Cosmic Egg!
And if that isn’t enough, there are acres of estate to explore, Elizabethan gardens, craft shops, gift and plant shop and of course a cafe.
There are lots of quirky and interesting statues and sculpture to spot – why not get your kids searching for as many interesting things they can find and make a list to see who has the most!
