DUTCH SILVER BONBON DISH
An unusually shaped antique late 19th Century silver and cobalt glass liner bonbon dish.
Made by either Herbert Hooijkaas or Hermanus Hartman of Schoonhoven, the silver frame is stamped H.H and has the lion passant 2 mark for the .833 silver fineness which was used between 1814 – 1953.
Of attractive pointed elliptical (vessica pescis) shape, this dish features a reticulated body with beaded rim and sits upon four ball feet.
With its original cobalt glass liner creating a dramatic contrast, it is a handsome piece for either a side or dining table potentially for edible treats or miscellaneous use.
The liner is a good substantial thickness giving the dish a quality feel.
Date: late 19th Century circa 1890
Condition: Fair condition. The silver body is in good condition and the liner has a couple of chips on the base edge which are concealed by the silver frame. Since photographing the dish a tiny felt pad has been added to one the underside of one ball foot to rectify a slight wobble caused by the foot being slightly raised from a flat surface.
