A lovely example of a quality antique brass railway carriage rack with luggage storage rails at the top and a lower rail with 10 hooks for coats and jackets etc. An ideal solution for storage in a bathroom, kitchen or utility, this rack would enhance any period setting.
The side brackets are a particularly nice design feature which have a geometric pierced design reminiscent of the early Art Deco period but also some ‘Chinese Chippendale’ style influence too. A rack of this quality would have graced a superior Pullman type carriage, potentially something similar to the Orient Express.
Both wall mounting plates are stamped with the make or name JEST. Although we are unfamiliar with this manufacturer, it is possible that the rack could be of continental European manufacture.
The mounting brackets will require 8 screws (brass ideally), please note that fixings are not supplied.
For the purposes of photography we have temporarily suspended the rack on string supports – the vertical lines apparent at the top of the rack in the images are not an integral part of the structure!
Condition: Good functional condition and ready to be installed. Original with the exception of one spacer and locking nut to the right hand of the rear top rail.
