Henry Loveridge & Co
ANTIQUE BRASS WATERING CAN BY HENRY LOVERIDGE
A lovely late Victorian or Edwardian brass watering can by Henry Loveridge & Co.
This beautiful 6 pint can is stamped on the base with the makers mark, the size number 6, British Make and the design number 51.
By 1869 Loveridge took over the company of Shoolbred and Loveridge, where he had been a partner, Shoolbred having retired. The substantial factory premises operated at Merridale Works, Merridale Street, Wolverhampton. Some scholars of Dr. Christopher Dresser, the design theorist, believe that he may have been involved in contracting to Loveridge, however this is not substantiated and based upon similarities in design of some pieces.
Date: Late Victorian or early 20th Century.
Condition: Functional watertight condition. The handle is slightly wonky and has become loose from one support, but still very sturdy. The body has a few dents. There is some old welding around the spout where it joins the body.
