ANTIQUE GERMAN SPRING CORKSCREW
A Dunisch & Scholer spring assisted corkscrew with a German patent number (DRP) of 27175 for the year 12 September 1883. It has a ribbed wood handle. The metal plate is interesting as it reads ‘John Temple, Leadenhall Buildings, London’. The current Leadenhall Building is the famous ‘Cheese Grater’ skyscraper. Presumably John Temple had an inn at the site during the late Victorian period, although research tells us that the main building was owned by P&O (The Old Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company) at that time.
