18TH CENTURY LEAD POT
An 18th Century (or potentially earlier) lead pot, jar or caddy of substantial construction. Possibly originally intended as a tobacco jar.
This heavy vessel, weighing almost one kilo, is nicely decorated with bands of studs (twin row at the top) and seven stylised petal designs around the centre within a fine scalloped border.
The pot has a blacked finish around the exterior which looks to be original. It would make a fine desk accessory as a pen pot in a very old property, but has numerous potential uses such as a wine bottle coaster!
Date: circa 1750 or earlier.
Condition. Fair condition considering its age. The pot is misshapen around the top (lead bends easily) it has a couple of dings including a small indent in the bottom edge. There is no lid. The welded seam is a little crude.
