ADMIRAL’S PARK BY J. RAYLL (oil on board)
An antique oil on landscape painting board entitled ‘Admiral’s Park’ by J. Rayll. Admiral’s Park is situated in Chelmsford, Essex, England. The work depicts a river winding through woodland and meadows with two bridges crossing it. I’m not sure when it was painted but it possibly dates from the late Victorian period to the early 20th century. The only other work I can find by J. Rayll was sold at auction in 2013 – it was entitled ‘Redhill Common’ and fetched 255 US dollars.
Condition: Aged patina! Some patches of paint loss, some crazing to the surface mostly in the middle, original patina (dirt!), two tiny holes in the wood at the top (not very noticeable from the front). The painting could be professionally cleaned.
PLEASE NOTE!! It has been quite hard to capture the correct colour and tone on computer – in fact the painting is duller and darker with less contrast than appears in the photos. The FIRST photo is the best likeness.
Age: late Victorian to early 20th century at a guess!
