An unusual painted pine cabinet with two hinged doors having deep recesses. The cupboard is ideal for storing wine bottles or for use as a drinks cabinet with glasses. The shelving will accept regular sized 70cl bottles as well as larger one litre bottles.
The doors have the same 4″ depth as the back section which allows much better display and accessibility.
Although designed to be freestanding on a counter, this cupboard could also be floor standing or wall mounted. It was nicely made with a panelled back so it looks attractive from both sides – particularly when the doors are opened.
The doors can be locked with the original hasp and staple.
This cabinet was originally an ‘Edmonson’ type railway ticket holder; named after Thomas Edmonson a trained cabinet maker who introduced this system in the 1840’s. Constructed in unusually thick pine planks, this weighty piece originally held 15 racks of closely spaced compartments to hold the new style bulk printed tickets which replaced the hand written earlier types. The ticket racks are now absent and the cupboard has now been gently upcycled to form a wine bottle store by the addition of some shelving, however it could also function as a charming spice rack, shallow food cupboard, collector’s specimen cabinet etc.
The baseboard is stamped: GWR
