EDWARDIAN AUTOGRAPH BOOK
A simply adorable Edwardian autograph book belonging to a young girl called Mabel W. Chaston. Filled with her friend’s and family’s beautifully handwritten poems, jokes, verses, drawings, cartoons and paintings and signatures mostly dating from 1905 to 1912 but there are two dated 1918 and 1921. The most interesting date is 12.12.12 – with a cartoon of a dog (‘From a Gay Dog’ A.E. James). They give an amazing insight to the memes of the time covering controversial subjects such as suffragettes and British explorers and how they viewed native people etc. Many pages are still blank. It has a burgundy leather cover with ‘Album’ embossed in gold on the cover. The album was made by Rock Bros Ld, London. The edges of the pastel coloured pages are gilded, and some pictures have tissue paper covering them.
