Benjamin Phillips, London, 1901
EDWARDIAN SILVER SUGAR BASKET
A delightful and exceptional Edwardian silver pedestal sugar basket with swing handle and cobalt blue glass liner.
Of large proportions and decorated in the Georgian manner with swags and bows, the pierced body beautifully highlights the cobalt blue glass liner.
Further decoration includes a pair of rams heads, stiff-leaf decoration, fish scale pedestal plinth, reticulated foliate handle and flower petal swags.
With its original cobalt glass liner creating a dramatic contrast, it is a handsome piece for a dining table and not necessarily just for use as a sugar bowl.
Stamped with the full English Assay hallmarks for importer Benjamin Phillips, London Assay Office, date 1901. The basket also has Continental silver hallmarks to the underside of the pedestal.
