RUSSIAN CLOISONNE & SILVER PILL BOX
An antique Russian (Faberge style) silver & cloisonné pill box.
Beautifully decorated all round in brightly coloured cloisonné, the top and base are reticulated with translucent enamel, apparent when held to the light.
The lid has the Russian double-headed eagle which when viewed to the light has a simply stunning amethyst body, sapphire blue eyes and a gold crown.
The body of the box has eight flower panels with alternating blue & white backgrounds. The box base of flower petal design, again translucent with pastel colours.
The hallmark is on the underside of the lid: the Kokoshnik mark of the woman’s head in profile facing right with the delta assay region for Moscow.
The 84 mark is the fineness or purity of silver in zolotniki: 84/96 or 875/1000 silver.
Date: 1908 – 1926
Condition: Good condition. The lid hinges and fits perfectly. The interior was originally gilt but this is mostly worn. No damage to the enamel with the exception of a small loss on the little lid handle and a patch above where the hallmark was stamped.
