GLADSTONE STYLE BAG
A good example of a Gladstone style bag, not dissimilar to a doctor’s bag but on a smaller scale. This type is probably a ladies handbag and dates from the 1920’s – 1930’s.
The pivoting metal rim opens up fully and locks in place to provide full access to the interior which is nicely lined and has two pockets.
The leather which is in good order is finished in a nice bark type design.
Access to the interior is provided by the sliding catches; the outer two have to be in the open position for the central opening one to be operated. The lock has the initials JKA.
The bag has light wear and is perfectly usable. It would also make a great film prop!
Condition: Good functional condition with minimal wear for its age. The catch mechanism works well but there is no key. Semi secure locking is provided by the outer latches. The leather is in good condition, the only spots of wear being on the ends where the leather falls into creases. The interior is in lovely condition. The handle is in near perfect condition and the brown metal rim frame only has minor paint loss by the central lock.
