WWII AMMUNITION CASE
An interesting leather ammunition holdall, bag, case made for the Woolwich Arsenal (Royal Laboratories – stamped RL 1942). It could also potentially be a medical equipment doctor’s bag for field service.
Constructed of very thick (5mm) leather this case was made to last during active service. It weighs nearly 2.3kg! It belonged to somebody (or some department) with the initials M.E.B which are stamped on the side of the lid and body.
Condition: Good functional condition with little damage. The leather is quite stiff and the lid is a bit out of shape. The interior is raw, dry and unfinished. There is a little cut on the side edge of the lid. The case has various scuffs & marks but has a good colour and genuine patina. The handles don’t naturally rest upon the lid – a little leather strap would be a good addition.
